WE is the closest thing to God, yes. There may be others even
i know his hair changed from the Nano's (i was makin a funny)

I guess it's up to the player to decide if his actions were understandable, justified or simply evil evil

In the end though he does have a change of heart and realizes the errors in his ways. Xeno characters are much more complex than most RPG villains. im not even sure i can call a majority of them villains or not. theres so much character development

Doesn't mean they aren't villains.

I didn't say they werent.
The real question is who made Deus, what it's original purposes were. The Gazel and Miang were basically puppets. straw-men, if you will.

and how/why Deus' artificial intelligence changed it's original purpose

Deus was originally a weapon, we know that much. made of organic and machine parts
Weapons are made to combat a threat right? it must have been a great threat to humanity. probably something along the lines of Gnosis perhaps?

Deus is the real villan, but we know so little about it. Maybe the makers of Xenogears wanted to keep it mysterious.
Maybe it would have been revealed in episode VI

Thats part of the reason why I wanted to do an RP :p

But in all honesty, its actually scary when you think about it. I mean, was there REALLY an enemy so horrifying and powerful that it justifyied making such a monster as Deus?

Besides, it woudl certainly lend itself to any surviving humans outside the planet making claims of "God has forsaken us" and etc.

The WE was trapped, and manipulated K to free itself. K did not realize this, but by the time Fei frees the WE things become a little clearer to him and he realizes trying to create God is futile and decides instead to "walk with God"

here i am, quoting myself...
should've said: the WE was freed with Fei's help.
poor choice of words and a mixup on my part
meh

Deus is not really a weapon per se'.

He's kinda more of a colonization machine which transforms the planet into a death star.. From what I understand.

Here's something I've been wondering: Is the exterior of Deus supposed to be ice, metal, crystal or moon? And is he supposed to be some dragon thing, or cannon-thing with angel wings?

Looks like a blob on the world map..

The deus system ... was a system.
I believe it was a terminal weapons interface system...or some such tech talk.
I really need to play Xenogears again... -_-
Anyway, I'm sure even the boss was really just another of the seraphs that was super-powered.
Mayhaps the base of that boss was, in part, El-Regrs. (You can draw the Xenosaga 3 Zarathustra comparison.)

I suppose you could also draw comparisons to Lavos. It's probably been done many times.
As you may recall, the "innards" of Lavos were controlled by a machine.
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.
If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.
If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

Deus built as a weapon
self aware. i think it was created this way. could have 'evolved' sentience
broke away from Eldridge for unknown reason
Capt.'s actions forces it down to earth
1 survivor- Abel
used itself to create a civilization of spare parts to eventually be absorbed

it colonized the planet of Xenogears, but only to repair itself
original intention, maybe not. but we know so little about the origins of Deus that it can't exactly be ruled out
maybe the WE effected the actions of deus to some extent to make it create humans.
Why would deus choose to make humans? why not some other life-form? because that's what Abel was?
it's complicated. been playing this for years and i still don't completely understand it

there's so many similarities between Gears and Saga. you could say that a lot of the parts of deus exist in their various forms in xenosaga

I believe the enemies were the Gnosis, too, after reading this:
http://xenoverse.xen...storyofxeno.htm
(Ctrl+F "Anonelbe" and read the paragraphs after that, about the After Word)
This just makes perfect sense to me. But I still feel like there's so much unanswered questions about Deus = /
I would love to know more about it!
