Being able to hear Heppatica or Godsibb again would be a treat.

Ah, that is what the great YouTube is for.

I agree though. The Legend of Zelda - Skyward Sword has this feature. More games should have it.
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.
If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.
If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

The way the new Zelda does it, you are limited to the items you had at the time.
So...the fights were never super-easy by any stretch.

Xenosaga 3 could have even gone so far as to add old bosses from X1 and X2.
They created that complete encyclopedia with even sometimes minor characters.
Why not add the bosses back? I actually played X3 my 2nd or 3rd time through mainly to fight Id again. :D

I'd rather have the option to adjust the Music and Sound Effects volumes, so that I could appreciate the original boss battles even more than I already do.
(I know I said some of them took me too long to finish, but I still love them anyway!)

I mean, Omega Metempsychosis is a truly amazing boss... I love pretty much everything about the fight, but the E.S.'s attacks are so damn loud that I can't properly listen to Godsibb while fighting = (

i just recently started III (finally)
at first i was very excited. finally playing something i've been missing out on. from a technical standpoint it's the best xenosaga. it's also the closest to Xenogears there is/may ever be. it was nice to relive the "damn good" RPG feeling i haven't had in a long time. it's hard to describe. i liked the gears-style dialogue cutscenes too. its a choice that allows for more storytelling and substance.
buuut, these feelings began to wear off at least slightly throughout the game (i just finished abel's ark, not quite done yet). some parts made me literally roll my eyes.i wasn't a fan of the whole pseudo time travel chapters.
i feel like the game is too cryptic at times. often i'm completely in the dark on things and have to look something up or check the database. speaking of that, i'm a fan of the database. it's very helpful, something this series needed. a lot better than the ones from prior games.
but yeah, it's just too complicated for it's own good sometimes. nothing new to xeno there though. you go periods of not learning anything for about an hour and then WHAM it drops 5-10 bombs on you out of nowhere, in the span of 2 mins.
in past few dungeons ive begun to get bored of combat. it's a good system, but all RPGs become repetitive at some stage. i've yet to lose a battle, it's not too challenging at all.
one thing that really annoys me is how precisely you have to be standing in front of a chest to be able to open it

there are plenty of references i'm really enjoying though. i'm just not sure if i want to devote the extra time to sidequests/hakox.
the whole xenosaga picture is becoming much clearer as things are beginning to resolve. good stuff. i should've gotten to this sooner.

As you say, any RPG (or any game at all, really) develops a feeling of repetition.

While it made the game easier, the battle system on foot made tech using too simple.
And in ES crafts, the ability to toss yourself a healing item on a whim made some mech fights too easy.
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.
If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.
If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

That is true but still it was cool flying around in them in the game.

About ES's items... well, I think the problem is not even having the items, it's the fact that they aren't even necessary because you can just equip the Disk that increases your heals, and heal like crazy since there is no limit on how many times you can use it.

On foot battles were a little harder for me, because my characters take a freaking loooooot of damage, and healing requires EP. Even with Recover EP, it's still takes me much more effort than healing with an E.S.

Yuriev and Zarathustra were the two hardest battles in the game for me, both on foot.

Well, I like the battle systems in Xenogears, Xenosaga I, III, Chrono Cross...
But I still flee from A LOT of battles in all these games. And I actually kinda don't care about this because I get a little underleveled and it makes the games more challenging.
